Golden Ratio Typography
Web-based tool for generating golden ratio-based typography scales using Google Fonts, perfect for setting consistent sizing and spacing.
Pros
- Fast way to generate golden ratio-based type scales
Cons
- Only Google Fonts and default system fonts
- Can't type the name of a font in the selection field
Golden Ratio Typography (GRT) Calculator is a web tool that helps you build font systems based on the golden ratio. You plug in a base size and content width, and it spits out font sizing, line height, and scale settings that are mathematically clean and visually balanced. If you’re into ratio-based grids or just want to see how your typography holds up structurally, it’s a solid place to start.
It only supports Google Fonts and web-safe fonts, which covers a lot of use cases but also feels limiting. You can’t load in your own font files, so you’re stuck guessing how your typeface will actually render unless it’s already hosted. That’s a miss if you’re working with custom branding or anything outside the usual system fonts.
The interface feels like it hasn’t been touched since the early days of responsive web design. It works, but don’t expect a polished experience. Still, it delivers what it promises without distractions. If you care about type structure and want fast answers without opening Figma or writing CSS, GRT does the job.
