Calligraphr
Turns your handwriting into a real, usable font with a simple template, a pen, and just enough editing tools to keep things clean.
Pros
- Fast way to turn handwriting into a working font
- Beginner friendly
Cons
- Kerning and spacing can feel off without tweaking
Calligraphr is what happens when someone decides font-making shouldn’t be a pain. You print a template, scribble in your letters, scan it back in, and suddenly you’ve got a working font file. It’s stupidly easy, which is kind of the whole point. No technical fuss. No learning curve. Just a direct line between your pen and a digital font.
You won’t get pro-level controls here. This isn’t Glyphs or RoboFont, and it doesn’t pretend to be. The free version caps you at 75 characters, and the editing tools are basic. Kerning is there, but don’t expect precision. That said, it’s clean, fast, and surprisingly fun. If you’ve ever wanted to see your own handwriting turned into something usable, Calligraphr delivers with no BS. Upgrade to the paid version and you unlock ligatures, alternate characters, and a full set of glyphs.
Some users have flagged weird spacing and clunky exports, especially when you try to stretch the tool beyond its comfort zone. It’s not built for type perfectionists. But if you’re making a headline font, something custom for a pitch deck, or you just want to play around, Calligraphr gets you there without wasting your time. It’s a one-trick tool, but it does that one trick well enough to be worth saving.
