FontGoggles is a no-frills desktop app that does exactly what it needs to. It lets you preview, test, and compare fonts without getting in the way. You load up your files, type in a test string, and get a live look at how your fonts behave. You can check spacing, kerning, OpenType features, and variable axes in real time.
It handles all the formats you’d expect, including .otf, .ttf, .woff, .woff2, .ufo, and .designspace. You can test multiple fonts side by side, turn features like ligatures or stylistic sets on and off, and see the results instantly. If you’re working with variable fonts, you get live sliders for weight, width, and any custom axes you’ve added. FontGoggles also auto-reloads files when they change, which makes iteration a lot smoother.
The interface is bare, but that’s the point. It’s built for type designers who don’t need handholding. There are no layout tools, no UI polish, and no distractions.
